Ohio District Visit Leads to Information on the Hill
Dora Pruce, district director from U.S. Senator George
Voinovich’s office, visited the Cleveland area in March where she
observed a continuing professional development session.
Pruce watched as a student and teacher from Moreland Hills
Elementary participated in the lesson which demonstrated how Reading
Recovery teachers work together to observe and analyze literacy
behaviors. Teachers from Euclid City Schools, Solon City Schools,
Orange City Schools, South Euclid City Schools, and Mentor City
Schools also attended.
Ohio Teacher Leader Stacy Moormeier presented Pruce with a packet
of information including the basic facts about Reading Recovery,
local and national data to support the effectiveness, the What Works
Clearinghouse research analysis of Reading Recovery, and RRCNA
recommendations for the ESEA reauthorization. Pruce appeared very
interested in the external evidence of the effectiveness of Reading
Recovery and promised that Senator Voinovich's education director in
Washington would receive the information and details of her visit.
Many thanks to those who participated from the Buckeye state to
secure a fast-track to Washington!
