Pat
Johnson has supported both students and teachers as an
elementary reading teacher for twenty-five years. Most of her career
has been spent in schools with diverse populations in Fairfax
County, Virginia. She is a Reading Recovery-trained teacher and has
served as an adjunct faculty member for George Mason University.
Presently, as a literacy consultant, Pat provides staff development
for various school districts nationwide and has presented at state
and national conferences. She is the author of One Child at a Time:
Making the Most of Your Time with Struggling Readers, K-6 and
co-author of Catching Readers Before They Fall, both from Stenhouse
Publishers.
Katie
Keier has been a teacher for 19 years - teaching, learning, and
playing with children in grades 1-8. She is currently in her first
year as a literacy specialist in an urban elementary school. Katie
received her master's degree in literacy studies from Virginia Tech.
She is a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Literacy
and an adjunct faculty member for American University. Her
expertise and interests lie in early literacy instruction and how
children learn through multiple modalities. She is also interested
in arts integration, critical literacy, creating a strong classroom
community, and children's literature. Catching Readers Before They
Fall is Katie's first book.
